SLP Forum Program

EO considers the Spousal/Life Partner (SLP) Forum Program one of its most important and valuable member benefit. SLP Forums have been a part of the organization since the inception of the Forum program. Today chapters are realizing the value of the SLP forums, and new SLP forums are launched every year.

The more SLPs who are involved in EO, the stronger your chapter can be. This happens for three primary reasons:

-SLPs understanding of the Forum experience negates any insecurity they may feel about the confidential nature of Forum. Conversations that begin with “I don’t understand why you can’t talk about Forum?” or “What have you been doing for the past five hours?” will be eliminated altogether.

-SLPs will perceive a direct benefit from the chapter, therefore having a greater appreciation for the member’s affiliation with EO. This can have a positive effect on member retention as well.

-SLPs will derive value from the Forum experience for the same reasons members do because they are receiving support/experience-sharing in various areas of their lives.

WHAT IS AN SLP FORUM?

An SLP Forum is structured just like an EO member Forum that fosters peer-to-peer discussion and reflection in a supportive, noncompetitive and non-judgmental environment. SLP Forums have consistent membership of seven to ten Forum-trained SLPs with regular meetings, led by a peer moderator. SLP Forum members are trained like EO members and have structured monthly meetings to share experiences surrounding their most important personal and professional issues.

SLP involvement in EO enhances the EO member’s experience. 

When an SLP is in an SLP Forum, they are more supportive of the time and resources their partner invests in EO because they have a deeper, first-hand understanding of the Forum experience.

When an EO member’s SLP is an active part of an SLP Forum, the SLP’s happiness and contentment increases as a result. 

SLPs gain a new understanding of confidentiality protocol. 

EO members whose SLP is in an SLP Forum develop a greater understanding of the importance of Forum confidentiality that a Forum demands: Own your story and never share any part of another Forum member’s story.
